<p>Collecting and maintaining the integrity of computer data not only is important during litigation but also can serve as a way to stay prepared before going to court, a Charleston attorney said.</p>
<p>In 2006, federal judicial officials decided digital evidence needed to be addressed in rules to govern litigation. A set of rules was born and created the presumption that electronically stored information would be presented in a format that would maintain the integrity of the original document.</p>
