Technology certainly has made life easier in the legal profession, but it also may have provided quite the learning curve.

However, many of the state’s attorneys are working to close the gap, especially when it comes to e-discovery.

A recent seminar presented in Charleston by The Appalachian Institute of Digital Evidence taught attendees all about the e-discovery process.

Collecting and maintaining the integrity of computer data not only is important during litigation but also can serve as a way to stay prepared before going to court, a Charleston attorney said.

In 2006, federal judicial officials decided digital evidence needed to be addressed in rules to govern litigation. A set of rules was born and created the presumption that electronically stored information would be presented in a format that would maintain the integrity of the original document.

HUNTINGTON – The Appalachian Institute of Digital Evidence is having its third annual conference in May to discuss the changing and evolving field of digital evidence.

The third annual conference will be held from May 21 to May 25 at the Marshall University Forensic Science Center in Huntington and is open to anyone who would like to attend. The cost is $50.
